The Undertaker Once Rejected A Place In WWE Hall Of Fame And His Reason Makes Complete Sense

The Undertaker Once Rejected A Place In WWE Hall Of Fame And His Reason Makes Complete Sense

"This is actually the second time that I was invited to the Hall Of Fame, so I wasn’t as shocked this time."

The Undertaker has confirmed he turned down WWE's first Hall of Fame offer in a rare interview.

It was announced earlier this year that The Undertaker would be entering WWE's Hall of Fame as the first member of the Class Of 2022.

Real name Mark Calaway, The Undertaker is regarded as one of the greatest professional wrestlers of all time.

There have been calls to induct him for years, but the man himself has revealed it didn't happen back in 2014 at his own personal request.

The Undertaker was offered a place in the Hall of Fame after having his WrestleMania streak broken by Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 30.

"This is actually the second time that I was invited to the Hall of Fame, so I wasn’t as shocked this time," he admitted to Dallas Morning News.

"I turned it down the first time because I knew I had unfinished business. I wasn’t at that place yet where I was ready to let go and say that it’s over. So, this time I have made my peace, and I am just honoured and humbled that they would induct me."

The Undertaker will be inducted by WWE chairman Vince McMahon, who helped create the character back in 1990.

McMahon and 'Taker share a great amount of respect for one another and he'll be the second person in history McMahon himself has personally inducted.

The first was 'Stone Cold' Steve Austin back in 2009.

Despite being a veteran with years of promos under his belt, there's just one thing troubling 'The Deadman' about the event. His speech.

The 56-year-old retired following a critically-acclaimed Boneyard match against AJ Styles at WrestleMania 36 in 2020 and is worried he'll be rusty on the microphone.

He continued: "I’m a bit overwhelmed right now with the speech. It’s the closest thing that I’ve had to do since putting a WrestleMania match together. I’ve been pretty much pressure free for the last couple of years since the Boneyard match.

"After a 30 plus year career with the WWE, the speech, and trying to be different, and not give the same thing that most people do, it’s become a task all to itself."

The Undertaker will be inducted on April 1 at the American Airlines Center in Houston, Texas, his home state.

WrestleMania 38 takes place over two nights on April 2 and April 3.

Night one will be main evented by Charlotte Flair defending her WWE SmackDown Women's Championship against Ronda Rousey.

Meanwhile, WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns will take on WWE Champion Brock Lesnar in a winner takes all match to unify the titles on night two.
