For years now there has been great clamour for WWE to host a pay-per-view event on these shores, with the UK a massive market for WWE due to the innate passionate fans and hotbed of talent.

The company have taken many steps in recent years, such as introducing a weekly show made up of UK talent, and they have all led to today's monumental announcement.

The event will come just over 30 years after the historic Summerslam event at Wembley Stadium in 1992, when the British Bulldog defeated Bret Hart to become the Intercontinental Champion.

“Principality Stadium is the perfect place for a major event, hosting our amazing fans from Wales, throughout all of Europe, and around the world,” John Porco, WWE Senior Vice President, Live Events, said in a press release.

“The weekend will be filled with a variety of WWE experiences that we believe will leave a lasting memory, on par with SummerSlam at Wembley Stadium in 1992.”

Fans are able to sign up for a pre-sale opportunity now and further information on tickets will be released in due course.

WWE regularly come to the UK for tours and have staged live Raw, Smackdown and NXT events.

But the last official WWE pay-per-view was Insurrextion, which took place at the Telewest Arena in Newcastle in 2003.
