Drew McIntyre is just days away from being in the Money in the Bank match but the Scotsman also has his eyes on NXT UK and the shows champion Walter.

WWE started NXT UK in October last year on the back of the success of UK Championship and the tournament that decided its first winner in January 2017 but without the incredible rise of the UK independent scene none of it would have been possible.

A big chapter in the UK indies recent rise belongs to Drew McIntyre, who returned to the independent scene after his first release by WWE.

The Scotsman took several titles to another level during his time back on the indies with ICW's heavyweight title becoming a world heavyweight title whilst he held it.

McIntyre then returned to the WWE, first with NXT where he became the champion and then onto the main roster, in April 2017.

Now the 33 year old has his eyes set on becoming the first Universal or WWE champion from the UK but speaking exclusively to SPORTbible he revealed he's asked Triple H several times to let him join Kassius Ohno, Finn Balor and Noam Dar on the list of Superstars who have had a stint on the NXT UK brand, saying:

"I ask Triple H all the time about it. Constantly on at him to put me on one of the shows. If you see me show up eventually you know he finally broke."

There could be one obvious place for McIntyre to fit in, by joining he old friends at Gallus. However the Scotsman says he's just about done with being in groups, adding:

"Dunno if it's in my best interest to be joining in anymore groups. I think I'm doing my best when I'm by myself. Those guys are guys I've known forever, especially Wolfgang, I took his first wrestling lesson about 16/17 years ago. If I had a chance in any group it would be with those lads but yeah I'd be better off on my own, high fiving them in the back, and maybe fighting one of them on the show.

"If I get that opportunity I'll be buzzing for it because I miss the crowds over here and the passion for it. In America you get some lively crowds but we're bloody mentalists in the UK."

And the former Intercontinental champion has his eyes set on a huge match as he'd like to face current NXT UK champion Walter, "There's a bunch of people I want to work with but if we want to give people a show they won't forget then I guess me and Walter would be quite the spectacle."

Walter won the title off Pete Dunne, after the Bruiserweight had held it for 685 days, at NXT Takeover: New York in April.

If McIntyre manages to walk out of the Money in the Bank match with the briefcase on Sunday and successfully cash in on Seth Rollins or AJ Styles then we could see a champion vs champion, McIntyre vs Walter, match somewhere down the line.

The old king of the independent scene vs the current king is the match we'd all love to see.
