WWE Superstar Big E Wants To Face Universal Champion Roman Reigns

Big E hasn't held a singles title since 2014, but he'd like that to change in the future.

WWE superstar Big E has stated current Universal Champion Roman Reigns is "the measuring stick" on SmackDown and he would like to face him in the future.

Reigns return from a five month hiatus back in August to claim the championship and he has ruled over the blue brand as the 'Tribal Chief.'

Big E has embarked on a solo run following the New Day being split by the WWE Draft and he admits Reigns is someone he'd like to face.

He told SPORTbible: "Obviously Roman is the measuring stick right now because he holds the title.

"What he's been doing with the 'Tribal Chief' stuff is pretty incredible and he's been killing this. I think if your goal isn't to be at the very top, to be a world champion if you're a singles, then what are you doing here?

"So obviously that's on the list as well."

As well as Reigns, Daniel Bryan is another superstar E would like to mix it up with in the future.

Despite Big E being a former NXT and Intercontinental Champion, his greatest success in the WWE has been alongside Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods in the New Day stable.

The group are multiple-time tag team champions and became one of the WWE's most beloved acts in their six years together.

While they have not officially split up, Kingston and Woods on Raw while Big E is on SmackDown means they cannot perform as a trio right now.

"I wanted to say it's bittersweet but it's mostly bitter!" E begun when discussing the split.

"I suppose one of the things to be is incredibly grateful because we got six years together and I'm mostly grateful it didn't end with me taking a steel chair to Woods or Kofi, that the door is still open.

"We have some cool things coming in the next few months with the three of us together, we still have our podcast and we still have that connection."

He goes on to list a number of legendary moments the group were a part of, which include hosting WrestleMania 33, being RAW Tag Team Champions for a record 483 days and even making a WrestleMania entrance out of a giant box of 'Booty O's.'

"For me, I just wanted to always make sure I was an ineludible part of this history of pro wrestling in WWE and you know, we're not done writing that résumé.

"But I think with the New Day, we were able to do something pretty cool and memorable and I'm really grateful for that run, and it's not over! It's just a pause, we're on hiatus right now but we've been able to do some cool things.

"Especially when you look at how rough that 2014 was, the fact we even got out of that and weren't broken up by the start of 2015 is pretty incredible, we had a cool run."

Big E debuted on the main roster in 2012 as a straight-faced bodyguard for Dolph Ziggler, but it never let the 34-year-old show off his personality.

"I really believe if people wanted me to be given this opportunity, that's down to the fact that I'm unique, that I'm me so for me to have this vast difference or departure from who I've been these last six years wouldn't make sense.

"There will be times that it calls for me to be more serious, if you watch what I did with Sheamus recently, if a man picks you up and drops you through the windshield of a car, you better be angry!

"So there are times when the situation will provoke me being more serious and more angry but I don't want to fundamentally lose who I am.

"I don't wanna be like in 2012 when I debuted as a stoic bodyguard, I don't wanna revert to that. That to me isn't character progression, that's regression and I don't wanna do that."

One of the biggest moments in New Day history came at WrestleMania 35, when Kingston became WWE Champion for the first time ever.

Big E was in Kingston's corner that evening alongside Woods, and he said he'd love his close friends to be in his corner if he returns to title contention.

"That's a good question. I'd want them there, that makes a lot of sense. We're on separate shows but we come together for pay-per-views and it'd mean the world to have their support not just spiritually but to have them physically there as well.

"Yeah, why wouldn't they be? I'm so glad we were able to be there for Kofi during his match and if we were just in the back the whole time I'd have felt like 'Man, I'm missing out on something pretty cool here.'

"I don't get to that opportunity, if I get that opportunity, I don't get there without the last several years of having them be there by my side and me by their side week in, week out.

"So they're instrumental to any run I have going forward."
