If anyone ever asks why you love football, do yourself a favour and show them this.

One football tragic has gone viral for all the right reasons thanks to his rollercoaster of emotions on display during Switzerland's historic victory over France in the Euro 2020 Round of 16.

The Swiss fan was seen virtually fighting back the tears one minute and screaming his head off in sheer excitement the next after his side somehow clawed back from 3-1 down in 81st minute to produce arguably the greatest ever upset in the tournament's history.

Now, rather unsurprisingly, his golden reaction to football's highs and lows has gone viral online.

Social media sleuths wasted no time in putting the passionate bloke's contracting reactions, which were filmed just minutes apart from each other, side by side to create an iconic picture.

And if anyone was looking for a way to sum up the emotional journey of Switzerland vs France, then that image alone could do it.

Some fans put their own creative spin on things as meme after meme flooded social media.

Once again, the internet remains undefeated.

As for the game itself, reigning world champions France will undoubtedly be licking their wounds after coming up short in a major tournament they arguably should have won.

Not only did Les Bleus blow a two-goal lead with less than 10 minutes left on the clock, but they also bottled it in the resulting penalty shootout with Swiss keeper Jan Sommer emerging as the hero to deny Kylian Mbappe from the spot.

The French were the bookies' favourites to lift the Henri Delaunay trophy at Wembley on July 12, a feat that would have made them just the second side in history to win the prestigious tournament back-to-back.
