Donald Trump's former lawyer has made newspaper headlines for all the wrong reasons once again.

Rudy Giuliani is never too far away from controversy and his latest comments regarding pro golfer Michelle Wie West have landed him a world of trouble.

Speaking on Steve Bannon's 'War Room' podcast, 76-year-old Giuliani described how he was attending a golf fundraiser several years ago and saw Wie West "bend all the way over" with "her panties (on) show" while putting.

Yes, he really did say that.

"On the green is Michelle Wie and she is getting ready to putt," Giuliani recounted.

"Now Michelle Wie is gorgeous. She's six-feet. And she has a strange putting stance. She bends all the way over and her panties show. And the press was going crazy. They were trying to take pictures of her panties.

"I said 'Rush (Limbaugh) it's not me, it's not you, it's her panties.'

"Is it OK to tell that joke?"

After a very awkward silence, podcast host Bannon looked visibly uncomfortable and swiftly tried to move on.

Footage of the incident spread like wildfire on social media with people quickly slamming Giuliani as "highly inappropriate", "degrading" and "disgusting".

And rightly so.

But that criticism was nothing in comparison to what Wie West was about to serve up herself.

And to say that she put the former New York City mayor in his place would be a huge understatement.

Upon catching wind of Giuliani's crude comments, the 2014 US Women's Open took to Twitter and let her feelings be known.

"It's unsettling to hear of this highly inappropriate story shared on a podcast by a public figure referencing my 'panties' whilst playing in a charity pro-am," she said.

"What this person should have remembered from that day was the fact that I shot 64 and beat every male golfer in the field leading our team to victory.

"I shudder thinking that he was smiling to my face and complimenting me on my game while objectifying me and referencing my 'panties' behind my back all day.

"What should be discussed is the elite skill level women play at, not what we wear or look like.

"My putting stance six years ago was designed to improve my stats (I ended up winning the US Open that year), NOT an invitation to look up my skirt!

"Nike makes skirts with SHORTS built in underneath for this exact reason... so that women can feel CONFIDENT and COMFORTABLE playing a game that we love."

From his cameo appearance in Borat 2 to the incident where his hair dye dripped down his face midway through a press conference, it's safe to say that drama seems to follow Giuliani around everywhere.

And surely people have learned by now that he needs to be kept away from the cameras for good - or microphone in this case.
