Conor McGregor's fans always have their finger on the pulse when it comes to his social media game.

Whether it's throwing their blind support behind the Irishman ahead of a fight or batting off Khabib Nurmagomedov supporters in the comments section, McGregor's fanbase is forever present whenever he posts something on Instagram, Facebook or Twitter.

But in McGregor's latest Instagram picture, eagle-eyed mixed martial arts fans noticed something worrying.

And, of course, they immediately jumped to conclusions and assumed the worst.

The man known as 'Mystic Mac' recently took to social media ahead of his trilogy with Dustin Poirier to post a picture of himself in a flashy suit designed by David August.

"Shark skin @augustmcgregor! #levels", McGregor wrote in the post's caption.

At first glance, it seemed like a pretty innocuous photo - apart from the fact he was wearing something that was made genuine shark's skin.

But if you take a closer look, you can notice something else entirely - something internet sleuths have hung onto for dear life.

Interestingly, McGregor appears to have a black eye in the picture, leaving intrigued fans to throw out wild speculations as to how he sustained it.

"My boy got rocked in sparring," one of his followers commented.

"Who gave you that black eye king?" another added.

It's highly unlikely that the former dual-division UFC champ got "rocked in sparring" and then had the genius idea of posting a picture of his shiner online for all his followers (and probably Poirier) to see.

But even if he did cop a couple of war wounds from a sparring partner, who cares?

You can probably imagine that a bloke of McGregor's nature would thrive off some hard sparring ahead of a big bout.

And with a man like Dustin Poirier set to stand opposite him when the cage doors slam shut at UFC 264, you can guarantee the Irishman will be training as hard as he can in a bid to exact revenge over his age-old rival.

McGregor was knocked out for the first time in his professional career when the duo met for the second time at UFC 257 back in January.

Now their highly-anticipated trilogy is less than a month away and the winner could find themselves at the front of the queue for a lightweight title shot against Charles Oliviera.

This wouldn't exactly be the first time that fans on social media have criticised McGregor's every move.

In a recent picture posted on his Instagram, he took a cheeky dig at Poirier by photoshopping a pair of his reflective sunglasses to show his knockout victory over 'The Diamond' back in 2014.

But some fans clearly weren't too happy to see the Irishman relaxing by a swimming pool ahead of his upcoming trilogy and proceeded to let him know about it in the comments section.

I mean, you can't please everyone - right?
