ESPN's 'NBA Top 100' List Has Raised A Few Eyebrows

ESPN's 'NBA Top 100' List Has Raised A Few Eyebrows

There's a couple of questionable rankings that fans and players themselves can't quite get their heads around.

NBA fans, experts and players alike aren't too sure what to think of ESPN's annual 'Top 100' list.

Some love it, some hate it and some just can't quite fathom how a couple of players in particular have ended with such a solid (or poor) ranking.

Every year, sports broadcasting giants ESPN release a detailed 100-man list of who they thought were the best players of the previous NBA season.

And for the 2020/21 campaign, let's just say they've thrown a few spanners in the works that have well and truly ruffled some people's feathers.

It's hard to argue that LeBron James doesn't take up the number one slot - that's totally fair enough.

But it appears most of the debate is surrounding that second position which ESPN had LeBron's LA Lakers teammate Anthony Davis occupying.

This means reigning league MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo had to settle for third - questionable in some people's eyes.

And as you work your way further down the list, you can begin to understand why fans are so divided.

On social media, the topic of conversation since the release of the list seems to be centred around Lonzo Ball's overall ranking - a rather generous 54th.

But if you look at the stacked roster of talent in Ball's rear view mirror, it's easy to see why a number of lower-ranked players are confused.

The likes of Tyler Herro, D'Angelo Russell, Zach LaVine, Blake Griffin, Montrezl Harrell, John Wall and even PJ Tucker would all have a case for putting up better numbers than Ball this pasts season.

Another one of those players was San Antonio Spurs star DeMar DeRozan.

He took to social media to share his thoughts on ESPN's analysis, simply tweeting a clown emoji.

And then there's the debate as to where number one overall draft pick Zion Williamson ranks after his first season in the NBA - ESPN have him at 19.

Either way, whether you agree with it or not, the list has done what it intended to do which is spark debate and drive interest among fans during the offseason.
