Jack Hale, take a bow.

The Aussie sprinter has recorded the fastest 100-yard dash time in Australian history.

Hale shattered the 55-year-old record held by former Olympian Gary Eddy when he clocked a rapid time of 9.43 seconds at the David Baxter 100 Yards Championship in Geelong.

Breaking the Aussie record is an impressive feat in itself, but the Tokyo Olympics hopeful has his sights set on even bigger goals in 2021.

"It's great to get that Australian record," 22-year-old Hale told The Mercury.

"Running the equivalent of a 10.2-second 100-metre at this time of year - I'm pumped about that.

"I'm in the best shape I have been in at this point of my career.

"Running 10.2 at this time of year is great. It's really only .08 seconds off my PB (personal best).

"It's going to be a long season so the smart thing for me now is to do all the right races and treat it like an Olympic Games year and not just like a normal Australian year."

Hale narrowly missed out on being selected for the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

During his qualifying ahead of the Games, he ran an impressive 10.21 seconds in the 100-metres - just 0.05 seconds short of the official selection time.

But four years later, Hale is clearly on path to represent his country in Tokyo.
