When word of John Morris' sacking as Cronulla coach spread, Sharks fans didn't seem best pleased.

It appears the whole ordeal of signing Craig Fitzgibbon combined with the board's overall handling of the sticky situation has left a bitter taste in everyone's mouthes - especially in the case of Morris' own mother.

In the wake of John's departure from Shark Park, Sharyn Morris took to social media to slam the club for the way they treated her son after two years in charge.

"My heart breaks for my son the coach," she commented on a social media post.

"So dedicated so loyal. So disgusted that he was treated so badly by the board.

"Even though he knew they weren't re-signing him he wanted to finish out his contract. He loves his players and staff. His only question ... why?

"They couldn't answer him. Fans get to know your board. They are deceitful liars.

"24 hours earlier they said 'no deal had been done'. You have the power but must be financial members for 3 years before you can vote. Vote them out and bring back Barry Russel [sic] a true loyal Sharks man."

Strong words, very strong words indeed.

But while the emotions are clearly still raw in the Morris camp, you can understand Sharyn's frustrations with her son technically still under contract when he got the boot.

And judging by the reactions from the Cronulla faithful on social media, it seems they're in the same boat too with many - including some of the players - wanting Morris to remain at the club.

On top of that, it was reported that Morris was told by the board that "no deal had been done" to get Fitzgibbon onboard, only for them to backflip and whip out a contract for him to sign less than 24 hours later.

But for now, Josh Hannay will take the reins as interim head coach.
