Aussie Rugby Legend 'Clinging To Life' After Getting Stabbed While Defending Family From Home Invaders

Toutai Kefu is reportedly 'clinging to life' after getting stabbed while defending his family during a home invasion.

According to Channel 7, the Wallabies great was stabbed in the stomach after three people broke into his family home in Brisbane at 3am on Monday morning.

It's understood Kefu confronted the intruders which escalated into a melee.

It was during this brawl that the Tonga head coach ended up sustaining multiple stab wounds.

Ambulances quickly arrived on the scene after reports from neighbours and the 47-year-old was rushed to Princess Alexander Hospital in a serious condition.

Kefu's wife sustained an arm injury, his daughter suffered a hand injury and his son had large lacerations to his back and abdominal region.

They were also taken to hospital, although they're understood to be in stable conditions.

While Kefu has been in surgery since the incident, police have been working back at the scene of the crime and currently have two people in custody.

"Police have two males in custody following a burglary and wounding in Coorparoo this morning," a statement from Queensland Police read.

"Police were called to Buena Vista Avenue at around 3 am in relation to an incident.

"Early information suggests a number of males were disturbed breaking into a dwelling there and a violent altercation left four members of the house injured.

"One male was restrained and taken into custody at the scene.

"Further offenders fled in a car toward Woolloongabba.

"The four injured residents were transported to the Princess Alexander Hospital for treatment. A man in his 40's has serious injuries."

The legendary number eight is widely regarded as one of the greatest to pull on the green and gold jersey.

With 60 caps for Australia under his belt, Kepu and was monumental in guiding the Wallabies to a historic World Cup victory back in 1999.

Two years later in 2001 and he was a key figure once again, helping the Aussies clinch the Bledisloe Cup from arch rivals New Zealand.
