Arsenal star told he should really leave the Gunners - fans would be gutted

Arsenal goalkeeper Matt Turner has been told he should leave the Gunners following his impressive performances at the World Cup.

Arsenal goalkeeper Matt Turner has been told he should leave the Gunners following his impressive performances at the World Cup.

On Saturday the USMNT were knocked out of the World Cup by the Netherlands, meaning the US’ 20-year wait to reach the quarter-final stage of the tournament goes on.

Arsenal shot-stopper Turner impressed throughout the tournament, however. During their three group stage matches in Qatar Turner conceded just one goal - a penalty converted by Wales star Gareth Bale.

The 28-year-old's former manager has now insisted the goalkeeper should leave Arsenal for a club where he plays regularly. Turner, a boyhood Arsenal fan, only joined the Gunners in January, as an understudy to England keeper Aaron Ramsdale.

So far he is yet to make a Premier League appearance and has been restricted to just four Europa League games for Arsenal.

Turner should leave Arsenal

Bruce Arena, who was Turner’s head coach at MLS side the New England Revolution claimed Turner should leave Arsenal in pursuit of more first-team minutes.

Speaking after the US 3-1 defeat to the Netherlands, Arena told MLS Soccer: “Matt can’t be at fault for the three goals against and made several great saves in the second half to keep the US alive in the game.

“Like the team, this was the first time he was truly tested at the World Cup.

“Now, Matt’s going to fall in line with the likes of Brad Friedel and Kasey Keller one day.

“He has to move out of Arsenal to start playing on a regular basis, but he’s proven himself to be a very good goalkeeper for the US.”
