West Ham have made 'promise' to Arsenal target Declan Rice over summer transfer

West Ham have made 'promise' to Arsenal target Declan Rice over summer transfer

West Ham have granted him his wish.

West Ham have made Declan Rice one key promise over a summer transfer, amid interest from Arsenal.

Rice has established himself as a stalwart of David Moyes' side and was handed the captain's armband at the age of 23.

However, the England international is expected to move on for pastures new at the end of the campaign, turning down multiple contract extensions in east London.

Arsenal have emerged as favourites to sign Rice, with Mikel Arteta keen to add a midfielder to his ranks this summer.

With Premier League safety almost guaranteed, the Hammers' focus will turn to the Europa Conference League semi-final against Alkmaar on Thursday, as Rice aims to cap off his West Ham career with a piece of silverware.

Moyes is allegedly resigned to losing his prized asset, and has made Rice one special promise ahead of his impending departure.

West Ham's promise to Rice

Rice's principal reason for leaving West Ham is his desire to play Champions League football, knowing that his chances of doing so are slim at West Ham.

In turn, the club have decided to grant him one last wish, claim Sky Sports.

The report states: "Out of respect for Rice and in recognition of his performances during six seasons in the first team, West Ham have promised they will not stand in the way of his dream of playing in the Champions League if a suitable offer is made."

Title-chasing Arsenal have a Champions League place guaranteed for the first time since the 2015/16 campaign.

However, West Ham are not willing to budge on their asking price and are reportedly using Jude Bellingham's fee as a benchmark for Rice.

As a result, Arsenal would have to pay £131.8 million to land the midfielder - a figure which may put the Gunners off.
