A candidate for the Boca Juniors presidency has proposed his plans for a new 112,000-seater stadium that would undoubtedly become one of the most spectacular venues in world football.
Jorge Reale, a businessman from Mendoza who is also a huge Boca Juniors fan, is proposing the “Nueva Bombonera” – an arena that would be situated just over a kilometre away from their current ground; the historic Estadio Alberto J. Armando.
In the past, there have been calls to modernise the stadium that was originally built in 1940. It was renovated in 1996 but it appears its condition has deteriorated since.

In fact, last year, during a Copa Libertadores match between Boca and Brazilian side Corinthians, shocking footage showed a huge crack in one of the stands. Check it out below.
Ahead of a new president being appointed, candidate Jorge Reale has presented a new stadium concept that would be built on Demarchi Island, which is just 1.3km from the historic site at 805 Brandsen St.
The project, by architect Enrique Lombardi, would have 444 VIP spaces, 78 TV booths, 4,000 parking spaces and 112,000 seats for Boca's huge fan base.

"With La Nueva Bombonera [the new stadium], we remain in our neighborhood that identifies us so much," Reale said.
"We not only resolve the issue of capacity, but we also provide a solution to a much bigger problem that the club has been facing for years: adherent members.
"All members would have the the same right and the same chances to support the club they love."
Boca currently have 315,000 active members – one of the world's biggest – meaning the 59,000 seats in their current stadium has been an issue. This new proposal, however, would help solve some of those problems.

It also must be noted that the famous La Bombonera would remain standing if these plans were to go ahead. Reale says it would be active as the headquarters of the women's team and the lower categories.
"If we achieve this dream, we will not leave La Boca and we will keep our mythical Bombonera standing," he said. "We are the greatest in Argentina, we deserve it!"
