Fan creates petition for UEFA to investigate Chelsea's spending if they sign Enzo Fernandez

Chelsea have spent big in the past two transfer windows.

A fan has set up a petition for UEFA to investigate Chelsea's spending if they manage to land Enzo Fernandez in the coming hours.

Chelsea will hold fresh talks with Benfica over the big-money signing of Fernandez on Monday, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, who says there "full focus" is on getting a deal done.

Todd Boehly, Behdad Eghbali and the board are said to be "on it", with the Blues willing to pay out the €120 million asking price – although a final decision rests with Benfica president Rui Costa.

It's safe to say American businessman Boehly and his co-owners have splashed the cash since completing a £4.25 billion takeover in May.

Last summer, they forked out a record-breaking £278 million on transfers as Kalidou Koulibaly, Raheem Sterling, Wesley Fofana and Marc Cucurella arrived for big fees.

The Blues have thrown a further £188 million at improving Graham Potter's underperforming squad in January, too, with Mykhailo Mudryk arriving from Shakhtar Donetsk in a deal worth £88 million.

Benoit Badiashile was also brought in from Monaco for a reported £35 million, not to mention London-born Noni Madueke, who signed from PSV Eindhoven for £29 million.

Malo Gusto, the highly-rated France U21 international full-back, is another recent addition, joining for a reported £30.75 million.

And if reports are to be believed, Argentina World Cup winner Fernandez could well be on his way to Stamford Bridge.

With the January window slamming shut on Tuesday, Chelsea don't have much time to wrap up the transfer. But if they do, one fan thinks UEFA should investigate the club's spending spree.

Change.org user Mohamed Abdu has created a petition to make his feelings known.

It reads: "Chelsea are continuing to spend unlimited funds in transfers without punishment. Chelsea have spending has shocked world football over the last 6 months and the club feel that they can spend whatever they have. There are rules and regulation that they must adhere to.

"The rules of FFP. We as a football community are united against this and want to UEFA TO SANCTION CHELSEA NOW."

At the time of writing, the petition has 119 signatures.

Chelsea's spending spree has been described by former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy as "absolutely preposterous" in recent weeks.

“It’s absolutely preposterous, it’s ludicrous, it’s illogical and it’s not helpful in the short-term or the long-term as Graham Potter just said," Murphy told talkSPORT.

“I think he’s sitting at home on an evening thinking ‘what the hell is going on?’ There’s no way he’s sanctioned all these. He brought in some of his own recruitment people.

“Todd Boehly takes himself out of the firing line and brings in two guys, one was the technical director, one was a sporting director. There’s a lot of chefs in the kitchen, a lot of people supposed to be doing one job, too many for my liking.”
