Borussia Dortmund managing director aims brutal swipe at Cristiano Ronaldo after claiming he was NOT a target for them

Borussia Dortmund managing director Carsten Cramer has aimed a not-so-subtle dig at Cristiano Ronaldo after claiming the club were not interested in signing him.

Ronaldo made his exit from Old Trafford after his interview with Piers Morgan, with the Portugal star’s contract with Manchester United terminated last November.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner criticised his former United teammates, the Glazer family and Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag, who “betrayed” him.

Ronaldo went on to sign for Al Nassr after Portugal crashed out of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, with the United legend earning a mammoth £177m per year.

The 38­-year-old Portuguese forward claimed that he received “many opportunities” from around the world, including Europe, before he signed for Al Nassr.

Dortmund had been heavily linked with Ronaldo last summer amid growing uncertainty over his future at United after Ten Hag’s arrival from Ajax.

The Bundesliga club were once again linked with the Portugal captain after his exit from United, but Cramer has now shut down any speculation surrounding Dortmund.

Speaking to German magazine Kicker, Cramer aimed a brutal swipe at Ronaldo by claiming that Dortmund’s value does not “depend on social media followers.”

“Basically, the value of Borussia Dortmund does not depend on social media followers,” he said.

“We are a football club, that’s the key. We can have the best ideas in marketing, but if we lose 3-0 at home to Freiburg, it doesn’t work.

“Even with the best brand presentation, the be-all and end-all is the product.”

Dortmund sporting director Sebastian Kehl denied claims last summer that the club would move for Ronaldo, but he did praise the ex-Juventus and Real Madrid star.

“Cristiano Ronaldo will not move to Borussia Dortmund. This is so,” he told German newspaper Bild at the time.

“The click figures were probably outstanding but we have done a few things over the past days to pin down this rumour.

“[Ronaldo is] certainly a fantastic player, a world footballer. But if it is said that he is missing the Bundesliga, then that is not our issue.”
