Remember when a referee got Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Kieran Gibbs mixed up or a player being sent off for kicking a ball at Rivaldo's leg or even Josip Simunic getting three yellows before his red? Well forget them all because this might be the worst sending off ever.
Oh referees. Their job is no doubt hard and it obviously isn't made easier by managers, fans and ourselves in the media berating them for every false move they make.
But sometimes the men in black just don't help themselves. There are some moments of utter madness when you can't believe that the referees, or their linesman, haven't seen an incident or have seen it the way they have.

When it comes to giving out red cards it really should be for something unquestionably worth being sent off for, even if that is two unquestionable yellows, but one referee has taken the ridiculous decision to give Lyon's Marcelo his walking orders.
Marcelo gets a booking and as he flicks his hand up in annoyance the ref lowers his arm and the card which causes the Brazilian to accidentally knock the yellow out of the ref's hand. That's apparently enough to now get a straight red!

The reaction of the 30 year-old and his teammates really says it all, it's so obvious what's just happened but the ref apparently doesn't realise that he was lowering his own arm!
Bruno Génésio's side were leading 3-1 at the time of the red card but conceded two goals in eight minutes not long after they were reduced to 10 men to give Angers parity.
