Footage emerges after Lyon team bus was attacked by Marseille fans ahead of Ligue 1 clash

Lyon vs Marseille was postponed after the incident

Footage has emerged after Lyon’s team bus was attacked by Marseille fans.

On Sunday evening, Lyon and Marseille were gearing up to face each other in Ligue 1.

However, the match had to be called off after it was reported that the coach carrying Lyon’s players and staff was attacked by opposition fans.

When arriving at the stadium, footage showed the damage caused by the attack. You can watch the footage below.

On the back of the incident, it was later reported that Lyon manager Fabio Grosso was left with a facial injury.

In a statement, Marseille said: “Olympique de Marseille deplores the unacceptable incidents which took place this evening around the Stade Velodrome, against the professional team bus as well as Olympique Lyonnais supporter buses.

“The club wishes a speedy recovery to Lyon coach Fabio Grosso and strongly condemns this violent behaviour which has no place in the world of football and in society.”

It continued: “Due to a handful of mindless people, the game planned for this evening was spoiled and deprived 65,000 supporters of attending a football match.”

Apart from the team bus, a coach reportedly carrying Lyon fans was also targeted by their rivals prior to the match.

Footage from social media showed people launching objects at the coach as it drove past. You can watch the footage below.

Lyon star and former Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren wrote on Instagram: “What happened tonight to our coach and to us on the bus was beyond measure. I respect over the whole world true fans, but these were not true today. These people came with clear intentions to do some serious injuries.

“This has nothing to do with football anymore! If the law is not changed, one day it will be too late. The government must do something. I wish all Lyon supporters to come back home safely.”
