Charlton Athletic have sacked women's footballer Madelene Wright after reportedly being seen 'inhaling from a balloon' and 'drinking champagne a the wheel of her Range Rover'.

Snapchat videos emerged on social media last week that showed Wright at a party with a number of guests 'inhaling balloons'.

A second allegedly shows her behind the wheel of her Range Rover drinking champagne straight from the bottle.

It was announced on Friday her registration with the club had been cancelled, but she'd have access to their support channels if required.

Charlton's statement read per The Sun: "The club were made aware of the video and quickly investigated the incident.

"As a club we are disappointed with the behaviour which doesn't represent the standards the team upholds.

"The player is remorseful and has now left the club.

"The club would like to make clear that although the behaviour is not acceptable, the players welfare remains important to us and she will still have access to the club's support channels if needed."

Wright joined the Addicks in January after a spell with Millwall.

The 22-year-old was investigated by Millwall last year for filming a friend putting a dog's paws on the wheel of their moving car.

Road safety charity Brake also condemned Wright's actions and told The Sun her conduct was unacceptable.

"Driving and alcohol simply do not mix," he begun.

"When you're behind the wheel you're in charge of a potentially lethal weapon which requires full concentration and zero impairment to do so safely.

"We urge all drivers to never drink any amount of alcohol and drive - and certainly never do both at the same time."

Charlton Women are currently 11th in the Women's Championship.

They return to action on Sunday against Lewes having lost their last league game 1-0 to Sheffield United.
