Arsenal have drafted three-man striker shortlist as alternatives to Ivan Toney

Arsenal have drafted three-man striker shortlist as alternatives to Ivan Toney

Mikel Arteta is keen on adding attacking firepower in the January window.

Arsenal's three-man shortlist of alternative targets to Ivan Toney has emerged as they seek attacking reinforcements in the January window.

Talks of the Gunners needing another striker intensified on Sunday afternoon, when they fell to a disappointing 2-1 loss against Fulham.

Goals from Raul Jimenez and Bobby De Cordova-Reid cancelled out Bukayo Saka's opener at Craven Cottage, which spelled back-to-back Premier League defeats.

As they continue to struggle in front of goal, Mikel Arteta's side remain interested in a big-money move for Brentford forward Ivan Toney.

In fact, Arsenal are currently investigating whether a deal can be done for the striker in January, according to The Independent.

There is, however, a few issues surrounding the possible deal. Financial Fair Play is an obvious concern, as is the inflated £80 million price tag.

Toney has also been out of action for the last eight months after he was found guilty of breaching the FA's rules over gambling.

There is increasing uncertainty over a deal, especially in January, so who else could they target? Well, the club have drawn up a three-man shortlist of alternative targets to Toney, according to CBS Sports.

Napoli forward Victor Osimhen is said to be firmly on Arsenal's radar. He has netted eight goals from 18 appearances this season but the Nigerian has a release clause of £120 million, which is out of the club's price range.

Argentina international Lautaro Martinez, who has scored 17 goals in 23 games for Inter Milan, also features on the list alongside highly-rated Bayer Leverkusen forward Victor Boniface.

Boniface has been on fire for Xabi Alonso's side this season, netting 16 goals from 23.

Whether any of the above will be attracted to joining Mikel Arteta's project remains unclear, but it appears Ivan Toney is interested, with the former Peterborough man liking one message asking him to join the North London club.
