Sky Sports reporter drops Jurrien Timber injury update, it's promising news for Arsenal fans

Timber sustained an ACL injury against Nottingham Forest on the weekend.

Sky Sports reporter James Green has dropped an encouraging update regarding Jurrien Timber's injury.

Timber was handed his Premier League debut against Nottingham Forest on the weekend following his summer arrival from Ajax in a deal worth a reported £40 million.

The Gunners recorded a 2-1 win at the Emirates, but the result was tinged by the sight of Timber hobbling off the pitch with a suspected ACL injury.

According to Daily Mail, the Dutchman is set to undergo knee surgery which will see him absent for a significant period of time.

However, Green has claimed the injury "is not as severe as it could have been".

"Timber was still walking the next day which is really rare for an ACL injury," he told Sky Sports on Thursday.

"The club are saying it is just a tear in his ACL, there is no further damage to his knee. That doesn't mean that the rehabilitation won't be long. It will still be quite long-term, but it is not as severe as it could have been."

On the other hand, Timber was less positive in his assessment of the injury, admitting that it was "more serious than expected".

Providing an update for fans on Instagram, the 22-year-old wrote: "Gutted to share my injury is more serious than expected, especially after the warm welcome I've received.

"I wanted to repay you on the pitch, which will not be possible for the forthcoming period. I'm blessed with a lot of great people around me, together we will do anything to get back as soon and strong as possible.

"For now I’ll be supporting our team from the stands of course. Thanks for making me feel at home in such a short period of time, see you at The Carpet."

Timber's injury follows Gabriel Jesus, who is also sidelined with a issue injury he sustained during pre-season.

“He’s had some discomfort in his knee that has been causing some issues and they had to go in and resolve it,” Arteta said last week. “It’s not something major but he’s going to be out for a few weeks I think.”

Oleksandr Zinchenko is likely to replace Timber at left-back, having being left out of Arsenal's opening game to face Nottingham Forest.

“I think everyone is available,” Arteta said ahead of the game, indicating the Ukranian wasn't left out due to injury. He is expected to be return for the Gunners' clash against Crystal Palace on Monday.
