Jurgen Klopp left completely stunned by Sir Alex Ferguson story that 'he didn't know about'

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp was stunned by a Sir Alex Ferguson story he didn't know about.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp was left completely stunned by a Sir Alex Ferguson u-turn story in his press conference on Friday.

Klopp held a special press conference following his announcement that he will be stepping down as manager of Liverpool at the end of the season.

The German wanted to use the opportunity to clear up any questions on his departure so that his side could begin to focus on their upcoming matches.

The Reds host Norwich at Anfield on Sunday in the FA Cup fourth round, one of four competitions they remain in contention for.

Whilst Klopp's announcement came as a shock it gives Liverpool great motivation to win silverware this season and give him the perfect send-off.

During the press conference, the 56-year-old was left stunned when asked about the famous u-turn Sir Alex made back in 2001, something which Klopp knew nothing about.

After 15 years in charge at Old Trafford, Ferguson announced he was to retire at the end of the 2001-02 season. Soon after the decision was made public United's form faltered and it led to the Scot deciding he was going to stay.

He remained at the club for a further 11 years as United continued their domination and reached three Champions League finals, one of which they won.

Klopp was asked whether there was any chance he would backtrack on his decision to leave.

"No!" He said. "Alex Ferguson stepped down and then changed his mind? I didn't know that."

"I respect Alex a lot, but no. I have really thought about how sad the situation is, but I have to make the decision at one point."

Klopp insisted that the decision was his and that the respect between himself and the board meant that nobody would ever make the decision for him.

He also revealed that he would never manage another club in England because of the love and respect he has for Liverpool.
