Pep Guardiola reveals which job he wants after Man City exit as door left open for shock role

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has suggested he will move into international football when he eventually leaves the Etihad.

The 53-year-old is under contract at City until 2025 and is yet to rule signing an extension with the Premier League champions.

But having spent all of his managerial career at club level, Pep says a desire to try his hand with a national team still remains.

Having been linked with jobs in the past such as England, Spain and the United States, Guardiola would clearly be at the top of most international team's shortlists.

Keeping coy on which nation he would like to take charge of, the former Barcelona boss did open up further on his future goals beyond the Etihad Stadium.

Asked by ESPN Brazil what was left for him to achieve in football, he said: "A national team. I would like to train a national team for a World Cup or a European Championship. I would like that.

"I don't know who would want me! To work for a national team they have to want you, just like a club."

Quizzed further, the former Bayern Munich boss explained how despite his successes at club level, he has never set himself a goal of winning a World Cup or Copa America, for example.

"I never thought about it like that [with the goal to win a world Cup]," he added.

"When I started in this I never thought about winning a league title or winning the Champions League. No. I thought, I have a job? OK.

"I would like to have the experience of living through a World Cup, or a Euro or a Copa América, or whatever it is. I would like that.

"I don't know when that would be, if that is five, 10, 15 years from now but I would like to have the experience of being a manager in a World Cup."

In December, reports emerged which claimed the FA had remained 'in contact' with Guardiola about a potential role with England.

Guardiola's latest comments suggest he could be willing to take on a role with the Three Lions, once his City career is finished.
