Gary Neville reveals unbelievable Champions League stat that is guaranteed to shock Man Utd fans

Gary Neville revealed an unbelievable Champions League statistic about his time at Manchester United.

Having spent his entire career at Sir Alex Ferguson’s United, Neville is one of the most decorated footballers of his era.

The 48-year-old won 20 trophies across his 19-year spell at Old Trafford, including eight Premier League titles and two Champions Leagues.

Indeed, Neville made 110 appearances in the Champions League for United, scoring two goals and claiming seven assists.

However, speaking on the Stick to Football podcast, brought to you by Sky Bet, the United icon said that he never played an English side in the Champions League.

Neville said: “I don’t think I ever played against an English team in Europe, ever. I played over 100 games in the Champions League – obviously, I didn’t play in the final [Manchester United v Chelsea] – I was injured in 2008.”

Elsewhere Neville spoke about United’s dismal performance against Bayern Munich in the 1999 Champions League final before Teddy Sheringham and Ole Gunnar Solskjær scored a pair of late goals to win the game.

Neville said: “There was a moment in that game [1999 Champions League Final] where things changed when he [David Beckham] moved from central midfield out wide.

“Yorkie [Dwight Yorke] went back into midfield with Butty [Nick Butt], Giggsy [Ryan Giggs] went left, Becks [David Beckham] right, and we had Teddy [Sheringham] and Ole [Gunnar Solskjær] up front – we ended up with 4-4-2 for the first time.

“Giggsy was playing on the right that night, for 75 minutes – I never played with Giggsy [down the right side] in my life, and he’d never played with me. York was upfront with Coley [Andy Cole], Jesper [Blomqvist] was on the left and Becks was in central midfield – we were all over the place.

“We only found out a couple of weeks before that Roy and Scholes couldn’t play but because all the games we had left were the FA Cup final and last game of the season, we couldn’t practice with the team, we had no games in hand to work with.”
