Sir Jim Ratcliffe 'makes Mason Greenwood pre-season Man Utd tour decision' after seeing his Getafe form

Sir Jim Ratcliffe has made a decision on Mason Greenwood’s involvement in Manchester United’s pre-season tour.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe has made a decision on Mason Greenwood’s involvement in Manchester United’s pre-season tour, it has been claimed.

In January 2022, Greenwood was arrested on suspicion of rape, controlling behaviour and assault - charges which the 22-year-old vehemently denied and that were later dropped.

Nevertheless, in August, United decided Greenwood’s future resided away from Old Trafford upon the conclusion of a six-month internal investigation, and he joined Getafe on a season-long loan.

Last month United’s new minority owner Ratcliffe, who has taken charge of football operations at the club, appeared to leave the door ajar for a Greenwood return to the Manchester club.

In an interview with the Athletic, Ratcliffe said: "We need to look at facts, judge fairly and take into consideration what the values of the club are.

“Then we come out of that with a decision. It is not appropriate for me to comment on Mason Greenwood."

The Sun then alleged that United will decide on Greenwood’s United future by the end of May.

However, it is now being reported that United bosses will block Greenwood from going on the club’s pre-season tour,

The move would be the clearest indication so far that United plans to sell the controversial star this summer.

United will return to America in July and play games in Los Angeles, North Carolina and San Diego.

Yet, the Daily Star has claimed that senior figures at United are concerned about the negative impact of having Greenwood on the trip could have on the squad, sponsors and commercial partners.

The publication alleges that the club fear that Greenwood would become an unwelcome distraction.

The forward has a contract with United that runs until 2025, but the club have the option to trigger a year extension, which would increase the player’s transfer value.
