Man Utd set Mason Greenwood asking price as meetings held with three massive Champions League clubs

Manchester United have set their asking price for Mason Greenwood, it has been claimed.

In January 2022, Greenwood was arrested on suspicion of rape, controlling behaviour and assault - charges that the 22-year-old denied and that were later dropped.

However, upon the conclusion of a six-month internal investigation, United decided Greenwood’s future resided elsewhere and he joined Getafe on a season-long loan.

While Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who has taken charge of football operations at United, appeared to leave the door ajar for a Greenwood return in an interview in February.

Speaking to the Athletic, Ratcliffe said: "We need to look at facts, judge fairly and take into consideration what the values of the club are.

“Then we come out of that with a decision. It is not appropriate for me to comment on Mason Greenwood."

Yet, a permanent departure allegedly remains the most likely outcome.

Indeed, ESPN has claimed United are set to ask for around £40million for the one-cap England international.

The publication added that United’s recruitment team is touring Europe’s biggest clubs ahead of the transfer window in an effort to kick-start their summer rebuild, with Greenwood having been a topic of conversation.

Football director John Murtough and director of football negotiations Matt Hargreaves allegedly had lunch with Barcelona sporting director Deco in Spain on Monday.

The club are also reported to have held meetings with Atletico Madrid on Tuesday, with further discussions with Real Madrid and clubs in Portugal and Italy also set to take place.

While Greenwood has allegedly been discussed during Murtough’s trip to Spain, Barcelona, who have widely been linked with the 21-year-old, have reportedly distanced themselves from a move.

Greenwood has impressed at Getafe, having netted eight goals in 26 games. However, the publication added that United are finding that prospective suitors still have concerns regarding the criminal investigation that ended his career at Old Trafford.
