Mason Greenwood has surprise Man Utd return stance as talks confirmed with John Murtough

Mason Greenwood has surprise Man Utd return stance as talks confirmed with John Murtough

It's his stance.

Mason Greenwood’s stance on a Manchester United return has been revealed.

Greenwood left United by mutual agreement in August and joined Spanish club Getafe on a season-long loan after a six-month internal investigation into his conduct.

The investigation began after the forward was arrested on suspicion of rape, controlling behaviour and assault in January 2022 – charges which Greenwood vehemently denied and that were later dropped.

Having re-ignited his career at La Liga club Getafe, where he had scored seven goals and registered five assists in 25 games, Greenwood has been linked with a transfer to Barcelona, while the prospect of a United return has also been touted.

Indeed, United minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe left the door ajar for a Greenwood return when addressing the media last week. Speaking to the Athletic the petrochemicals billionaire said: "We need to look at facts, judge fairly and take into consideration what the values of the club are.

“Then we come out of that with a decision. It is not appropriate for me to comment on Mason Greenwood."

However, the Athletic have now alleged Greenwood may not be keen on a United return.

While the publication alleged United football director John Murtough held talks with Greenwood’s dad, Andrew at Carrington a fortnight ago, the player would reportedly be reluctant to return.

The player is said to have felt United could have supported him better over his case and is reportedly harbouring no great desire to play for the club again.

Greenwood also recognises he would face greater pressure and scrutiny in the Premier League than he does in La Liga.

While the one-cap England international is said to have been home in Manchester over Christmas, he is thought to be enjoying life in Madrid alongside his partner and their baby.

Greenwood reportedly receives regular visits from friends and family while he is surrounded by a supportive fanbase.
