Man Utd make Mason Greenwood transfer decision which will be a huge blow to Getafe

Man Utd make Mason Greenwood transfer decision which will be a huge blow to Getafe

Greenwood is currently set to return to Manchester United at the end of the season.

Spanish side Getafe have been dealt a damaging blow regarding their hopes of keeping hold of Mason Greenwood as Manchester United make a crucial transfer decision ahead of the summer.

In January 2022, Greenwood was arrested on suspicion of rape, controlling behavior, and assault, all of which the 22-year-old strongly refuted. Subsequently, these charges were dropped.

Despite the resolution of the legal matter, in August 2023, United made the decision that Greenwood's future lay elsewhere following a six-month internal investigation. Consequently, leading to a loan move to Getafe.

Greenwood has six goals and five assists across 24 appearances in La Liga this season and has been a real difference maker for the side who sit 10th in the league.

Due to his impressive impact, it has been reported that the Spanish side are keen to extend Greenwood's loan beyond the 23/24 season but their attempt to do so looks to be an impossible task.

According to The Sun, United are only considering letting Greenwood leave the club on a permanent deal with a number of clubs open to signing Greenwood from Old Trafford.

Despite United's August statement, it is still up in the air whether United will let Greenwood go at all.

Following his acquisition of 25% of the club, Sir Jim Ratcliffe responded to the Greenwood situation and made it clear a fresh decision would be made.

Speaking on Greenwood, Ratcliffe said: "Well, he's a Manchester United footballer, we're in charge of football, so the answer is yeah, we have to make a decision, it's quite clear.

"There is no decision that's been made. He's on loan, obviously. We've got one or two footballers we have to deal with that are on our books and we need to make a decision, we'll do that.

"But the process will be understand the facts, not the hype, and then try and come to a fair decision on the basis of advice, which basically is he a good guy or not? Could he play sincerely for Manchester United well and we'd be comfortable with it and the fans would be comfortable with it?" Ratcliffe stated.
