Pep Guardiola beaten by two former Man Utd managers on all-time list of longest Champions League unbeaten runs

Pep Guardiola remains behind two former Manchester United managers on the all-time list of longest Champions League unbeaten runs.

Manchester City sealed qualification into the knockout stages of the Champions League on Tuesday after they beat Young Boys 3-0 at the Etihad Stadium.

A brace from Erling Haaland and another from Phil Foden secured the victory, as the reigning European champions made it four wins from four in the competition.

However, Guardiola is yet to top the list for the longest ever Champions League unbeaten run, with three other managers still ahead of him in the standings.

The Spaniard surpassed his personal record when his Manchester City side stretched their unbeaten to 17 matches against Young Boys (W12, D5), eclipsing his previous best of 16 games without tasting defeat while in charge of Barcelona between 2011 and 2012.

If City are able to continue their winning form in Europe, then Guardiola may exceed Sir Alex Ferguson's record 25-match unbeaten run in the competition he achieved with local rivals Manchester United, which lasted between 2007 and 2009.

Meanwhile, just two more unbeaten matches will take Guardiola beyond former Red Devils boss Louis van Gaal, who managed an impressive 19-match unbeaten run with Ajax.

Speaking to TNT Sports after City's most recent European victory, Guardiola praised his side's consistency, stating: "The word that define this group of players for many years is the consistency. We have high standards and and that is why we are still in the Premier League up there and qualified from the Champions League.

"People say 'yeah, the group stage, it is easy', but you have to do it. In life, you have to do it when people expect you to do it.

"Two games left. Leipzig are the toughest opponents in this group and we have to try and finish further. It is important in the last 16 to have the weapon of second game at home rather than away."
