Son Heung-min couldn't take selfie with fan using her phone because of strict rule

The Tottenham forward dealt with the situation expertly.

Tottenham Hotspur forward Son Heung-min was unable to take a selfie with one fan due to a strict rule in his contract.

Son was away on international duty with South Korea and took some time out of his busy schedule to interact with supporters.

The 31-year-old played all 90 minutes of South Korea's friendly against Wales on back in September, which ended in a 0-0 stalemate at the Cardiff City Stadium.

Son was filmed taking pictures with fans. However, the 2021/22 Premier League Golden Boot was unable to hold one supporter's phone due to his contract with mobile phone provider, Samsung.

Folding his hands, he politely apologised to the fan in question, explaining that he couldn't hold the phone but was happy to pose for a selfie, so long as she held the device. You can watch the footage of the incident below.

Son was unveiled as Samsung's Galaxy brand ambassador in July, with the winger no stranger to partnering with world famous brands such as Calvin Klein and TUMI, a luxury suitcase and travel bag.

And he is understandably keen to keep things sweet with his new sponsors in order to avoid having his new deal terminated like Ronaldinho back in 2012.

The Brazilian superstar was sponsored by Coca-Cola and according to reports, he was earning $760,000 [£500,000] per-year from the deal that was set to expire in 2014.

Despite this, the former Barcelona midfielder sat beside two cans of Pepsi, one of Coca-Cola's main competitors, during the press conference, even taking a sip from one of the cans - which ultimately ended his lucrative deal with the drinks brand.

Days later and Marcelo Pontes, the Coca-Cola marketing chief, told Brazilian newspaper O Estado de Sao Paulo: “The fact that the player has appeared with a can of Pepsi was the straw that broke the camel’s back."

“The sponsorship had become embarrassing,” he added.

Coca-Cola also released a statement on the incident which read: “Coca-Cola recognises the career and value of Ronaldinho. However due to recent developments it has become impossible to continue the partnership.”

Son, meanwhile, was attune to the situation and appeared to deal with the awkward encounter expertly and politely.
