A Manchester United fan has gone viral after claiming Sofyan Amrabat played for Watford five years ago.

Over the last few weeks, United have been linked with Fiorentina’s Moroccan midfielder Amrabat, who starred during the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

According to Italian media outlet La Nazione, via Sport Witness, the Old Trafford club have struck an ‘economic agreement’ with the 26-year-old.

However, one United fan has gone viral after he made a huge blunder by saying Amrabat played for Watford five years ago, but he didn’t.

The player he was thinking of is called Nordin Amrabat, who is Sofyan’s brother.

Whilst speaking on The United Stand Fan Channel, the fan said: “Can I just ask, am I missing the memo here with Amrabat?

“Why is it we’re going for Amrabat? We’re Manchester United, that name Amrabat, he played for Watford five years ago. Why are we now going for him?”

Another fan was heard saying: “He had a good World Cup that’s why.”

Other fans were quick to react on social media.

One said: “Nah he meant Amrabat’s older brother.”

Another tweeted: “He made a mistake but you can tell none of these lot have a clue what's going on.”

A third fan added: “Nah he’s acc so serious he’s funny tbf.”

Someone else wrote: “So whose gonna let him know lads, imagine his face when Sky say there's interest Dembele.”

Whilst a fifth commented: “None of them knew!”

United are now looking to press ahead with their summer transfer plans after sealing the signing of Mason Mount from Chelsea this week.

After joining the club, the 24-year-old said: “It's never easy leaving the club where you grew up, but Manchester United will provide an exciting new challenge for the next phase of my career.

“Having competed against them, I know just how strong a squad it is that I'm joining, and I can't wait to be part of this group's drive to win major trophies.”

Mount added: “I am hugely ambitious; I know how amazing it feels to win major trophies and what it takes to do it. I will be giving everything to experience that again at Manchester United.”

On Thursday, it was reported that United have made an improved bid for Inter Milan goalkeeper Andre Onana.
