The Manchester United midfielder has been singled out for praise ahead of tonight's fixture, with Simeone talking up the Scotland international.

McTominay, whose played 29 games in all competitions this season, was branded one of the 'best midfielders' in the world by the Atleti boss.

Simeone also hailed Paul Pogba, who has played alongside McTominay since returning from injury.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference, the Argentine said: "They [Manchester United] have an incredible midfield.

"I am incredibly impressed with the work rate. Pogba and McTominay are two of the best midfielders in the world with a great balance."

The 25-year-old has weighed in with two goals this term and speaking before his starring role against Leeds, he said he needs to score more goals.

"For me, definitely I need to score more goals. I need to be the guy who can score from set pieces and score with my head. That’s something I definitely look at," he said.

"Last year I scored seven goals so obviously I want to beat that this year and I want to keep pushing forwards into the box.

"As I say, different formations might not allow you to get into the box but still being a threat and playing the passes to help the forward boys, like against Middlesbrough, was important for me. As I say, we just want to keep getting better as a group."
