Everton full-back Lucas Digne has been criticised by fans after the French defender joked about Richarlison's red card in the Merseyside derby.

It was a game full of controversial incidents. Virgil van Dijk hobbled off in the early stages at Goodison Park after a Jordan Pickford scissor tackle and, in the final minutes, Jordan Henderson's last minute goal was controversially ruled offside.

The Premier League clash eventually finished 2-2 but for many, the talking points included a number of dangerous tackles, including Richarlison's high-foot on Liverpool midfielder Thiago Alcantara, who somehow carried on following the incident.

Both players contested for the loose ball but Richarlison planted his boot into Thiago's shin, which gave referee Michael Oliver no other choice but to send the Brazilian forward for an early bath.

Following the game, Richarlison issued an apology to the Liverpool midfielder, releasing a statement on his official website to give his version of events.

"Everyone who knows my background knows that I was never a violent player," he wrote.

"I did not enter that dispute with the intention of hurting Thiago. When I saw that the crash was going to happen, I picked up my foot and hit him with my knee in the pass, which was inevitable due to the speed of the play.

"I already sent a message to him apologising and I also do it here publicly. I hope he hasn't been hurt and that everything is fine."

Richarlison did, however, anger many Liverpool fans after he deleted a tweet showing the two men colliding with his knee going into Thiago.

And now, two days after the Merseyside derby clash, fans are once again upset after another Everton player decided to bring up the incident with a joke caption.

Lucas Digne posted the following picture on Instagram, saying "I tried to do my best Pai @richarlison."

The 27-year-old appears to try and place the red card back in Michael Oliver's pocket as players wait for Richarlison to get back on his feet. It is fair to say
