Liverpool have found new defensive solution that could save FSG millions in transfer market

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp may have found a new defensive solution

Liverpool may have found a new defensive solution that could save owners Fenway Sports Group millions in the transfer market.

During this summer’s transfer window, it was well-documented that Liverpool were focusing on rebuilding their midfield department after several high-profile exits.

The likes of Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, Wataru Endo and Ryan Gravenberch were signed by Jurgen Klopp.

Apart from the midfield, it was frequently reported that the Anfield club were trying to buy a talented young left-sided central defender.

The likes of Micky Van de Ven, Goncalo Inacio and Levi Colwill were all linked with a move to Liverpool but nothing ever materialised.

Now, two months into the new season, the emergence of Jarell Quansah may well have solved Liverpool’s defensive problems.

Quansah first joined the Reds when he was just five years old and has played for the U18s and U21s.

This season, Klopp has already given Quansah his Premier League debut after he produced a promising performance during Liverpool’s 2-1 win against Newcastle United.

On Thursday night, Quansah was handed his first Europa League start as he shined in the 2-0 win over Union Saint Gilloise.

Playing on the left side of defence, Quansah looked quick and strong whenever he was called upon. On the ball, the 20-year-old showed his range of passing that will only get better with age and experience.

Against Union Saint Gilloise, Quansah recorded a pass rate of 90%, won two out of three ground duels and made eight ball recoveries.

After the match, Klopp said: “It was not a difficult decision for us to start him tonight. Still young. He will get minutes. It's nice to see. A joy to watch his development.”

Quansah’s brilliant start to the 23/24 season has also earned him a call-up to the England U21 side.

With the likes of Joel Matip and Joe Gomez facing uncertain futures at the club and Virgil van Dijk not getting any younger, Quansah’s emergence has come at the perfect time for Klopp to be able to save millions to spend elsewhere.

Although he currently only has a market value of around €400,000, there are no reasons why Quansah cannot become a £20/£30 million defender in a few years’ time.
