Man Utd launch bid to sign Everton midfielder Amadou Onana as asking price revealed

Man Utd have a new target.

Manchester United have made contact with Everton over the possibility of signing midfielder Amadou Onana, according to a new report.

The highly-rated 21-year-old moved to Goodison Park from Lille for a fee of £33 million, and has been a key player under both Frank Lampard and Sean Dyche.

He started Saturday's 1-0 defeat to Fulham as part of a three-player midfield, after making 33 appearances in the Premier League last term.

Despite the signing of Mason Mount from Chelsea, United are still eyeing up midfield reinforcements.

And, according to a new report, Onana is firmly on their wanted list.

Man Utd 'launch bid for Amadou Onana'

According to The Guardian, United manager Erik ten Hag is keen on adding more physicality to his midfield and is targeting a 'commanding central midfielder'.

Onana, it appears, fits the bill, although there are some stumbling blocks for United to jump over.

The first of those is the £50 million asking price which Everton have reportedly placed on the Belgian midfielder after an impressive first season at Goodison Park.

That, in turn, means that Dyche's side are desperate to keep him, with Onana being their marquee signing across two summers of otherwise low spending.

The 21-year-old was described as 'outstanding' by former Sunderland and Aston Villa striker Darren Bent in February, and The Guardian claim that there is a belief his value will increase at Everton if he continues to play well.

His form led to interest from Chelsea in January, although the Blues have since turned their attentions to Brighton star Moises Caicedo.

Dyche is targeting another striker, meanwhile, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin currently injured and Tom Cannon expected to leave this summer either on loan or on a permanent deal.

Young striker Youssef Chermiti has signed from Sporting Lisbon, while the Toffees have also been linked with a move for Patson Daka from Leicester.
