Man Utd could be about to help Barcelona solve Marcos Alonso nightmare with €40m deal

Manchester United could help Barcelona solve their Marcos Alonso nightmare by securing a €40million (£34million) deal for Jean-Clair Todibo, it has been claimed.

Barcelona are reportedly unable to register left-back Alonso, with the La Liga champions having been plagued by financial issues that have also held them back from registering Inigo Martinez, and goalkeeper Inaki Pena.

According to the Spanish publication Sport, Alonso is adamant that he does not want to leave and will not even listen to offers, despite the La Liga club keen for him to be transferred.

The 32-year-old was forced out of the club’s opening two games of the season, and the publication have claimed that Barca’s problems with La Liga’s Financial Fair Play rules are restricting them from registering the former Chelsea wing-back.

Their report comes amid claims by Spanish transfer specialist Gerard Romero that an unnamed Premier League outfit is considering a move for Alonso.

Barcelona have struggled to register players for the past two years and have been forced to sell off several assets to do so.

But United may be set to complete a deal that will help the Catalan giants in the endeavour of registering Alonso.

According to L’Equipe United are close to completing a move for Todibo.

The France international's move to Old Trafford is reportedly ‘in sight’, with the player currently valued at €40million (£34million) by Nice.

Erik ten Hag had reportedly initially been keen on landing Bayern Munich’s Benjamin Pavard, but the Dutchman is also said to have spoken to Todibo over a move.

It has been widely reported that should United complete a move for the centre-back Barcelona are due to receive a reported 20 per cent of the fee, which could help the club register Alonso ahead of the new season.

Of course, United will need to generate funds themselves should they complete a move for Todibo.

The club were heavily reliant on the exit of Harry Maguire when stepping up talks for Pavard. Indeed a transfer for the 23-year-old could be dependent on United securing funds from other potential departures.
