“He wants…” - Fabrizio Romano clarifies Sofyan Amrabat's Man Utd stance after “I can stay” quotes emerge

Romano has clarified Amrabat's stance.

Fabrizio Romano clarified Sofyan Amrabat’s stance on a Manchester United move.

Amrabat has attracted interest from both United and Saudi Arabian outfit Al Ahli after impressing for Morocco at the World Cup and helping Fiorentina to the Europa Conference League final.

The 26-year-old has a year remaining on his Fiorentina contract, though the Italian side reportedly have an option to extend the midfielder’s deal by a further 12 months.

And after the Florence outfit dispatched Serie D side Grosseto 4-0 in a pre-season friendly, quotes emerged suggesting that Amrabat could stay in Italy beyond the summer window.

The Morocco international allegedly said: “I don’t know if I’m leaving… maybe I can stay here at Fiorentina”.

Fabrizio Romano labels Amrabat quotes “fake”

According to transfer guru Romano, Amrabat’s quotes are “fake” and the player has his heart set on a move to Old Trafford.

The Italian journalist tweeted: “Amrabat has no doubts: he said yes to Manchester United, and he wants the move since the first talks in June despite rich Saudi bids.

“Understand he never said he’s “staying” or anything similar. Fake quotes. No official bid yet — Man Utd will send it as soon as Fred/Donny leave.”

According to Sports Mail, United opened talks with Real Sociedad this week over the sale of Donny van de Beek while they are awaiting an improved offer from Galatasaray for Fred.

Indeed, most of Erik ten Hag’s summer budget will have disappeared once Rasmus Hojlund’s £72million move is completed.

In turn, the Old Trafford club will need to raise funds before they bring in the £30million rated Amrabat.

Van de Beek has been deemed surplus to requirements United, with the club reportedly willing to let him go for around £25million. The Netherlands international only managed to make seven Premier League appearances during the 2022/23 campaign due to injury.

Meanwhile, Galatasaray had an undisclosed bid turned down by United last month for Fred, but are expected to come in with an improved offer.
