UFC Hall of Fame fighter had unique 'Conor McGregor clause' written into his contract

There's a reason why Conor McGregor compared booking a fight with him to winning the lottery as he coined the legendary 'red panty night' phrase.

McGregor's iconic line came in the build-up to his proposed clash against Rafael dos Anjos - a fight which never happened following the Brazilian's injury.

Dos Anjos missed out on a huge payday after he was forced to withdraw from UFC 196 back in March 2016.

Urijah Faber is another UFC fighter who was unable to land a fight against the 'Notorious' during his career.

Had he been paired with the Irishman, however, 'The California Kid' would've bagged a massive purse.

According to unsealed documents coming from the UFC antitrust lawsuit obtained by Bloody Elbow, Faber had lucrative UFC contract clauses for McGregor.

He had contract clauses specifically for a potential fight against the former UFC double champion.

If Faber had faced McGregor in a non-title bout, his base purse would have gone up to $250,000, with a $150,000 win bonus.

If he had took him on in a non-title bout in a main or co-main event slot of a pay-per-view card, his pay would have bumped up to $400,000, with a $100,000 win bonus.

A featherweight or lightweight title bout against McGregor would have seen Faber earn up to $750,000, with no win bonus.

Faber, who was inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame as part of the Modern Wing era in 2017, signed his latest UFC contract in August 2015, with his deal starting at $150,000 to show and $150,000 to win, with each win bumping both base purse and win bonus by $10,000 up to potentially $220,000 to show and $220,000 to win for the eighth fight if he won every bout.

The former WEC featherweight champion coached against McGregor on The Ultimate Fighter but never landed a fight against him.

But he fought the likes of Jose Aldo, Dominick Cruz and Renan Barao during his legendary professional career before walking away from the sport for a second time following his defeat to Petr Yan back in December 2019.
