Aussie TV reporter robbed of $20k camera equipment during World Cup coverage

An Australian sports reporter has been robbed of her $20,000 camera equipment while on duty covering the Rugby League World Cup in England.

Channel 9 journalist Emma Lawrence and cameraman Cade Thompson woke up one morning to discover that their car had been broken into and their expensive gear had been nicked.

The incident was reported to local police who have launched an investigation into the matter.

Unfortunately, it's just the latest case of thieving that we've witnessed at this year's World Cup.

Earlier in the tournament, the Lebanese side were robbed at their hotel in Manchester with laptops and a bunch of equipment stolen.

Even the team's jerseys were pinched, although they were eventually found in time for their game.

But the Lebanese lads were far from done with their run-ins with would-be thieves.

In a completely separate incident altogether, members of the squad were forced to spring into action after a robber broke into their hotel room.

In wild CCTV footage, you can see the players chase down the person before performing a citizen’s arrest to detain them until until police arrived on the scene.

“We had another intruder last night,” Lebanon coach Michael Cheika said.

“They say we’re part-timers – I think the other part-time [work] we’re doing is security.

“Someone came in the team room and I’m not sure what happened, but they called me, thank goodness, so I got down there and settled it all down and the police did their bit after that.

“It was an early kick-off [the next day] – I didn’t want them chasing blokes down the street at 10pm.

“They thought they were on an episode of Law and Order, the fellas. It has been a bit of a crazy week with all that happening and trying to not have it as a distraction.”
