Murray Taulagi's Try Assist Might Just Be The Greatest Pass In NRL History

Murray Taulagi produced arguably the greatest try assist in NRL history against Wests Tigers during Magic Round.

The North Queensland Cowboys winger left everyone watching well and truly stunned when he dived outside the field of play yet somehow managed to set up teammate Scott Drinkwater.

At first glance, it was tricky to see how Taulagi actually managed to get the ball away without touching the turf, but after a few replays you can get a clear grasp just how genius the play was.

Now fans are calling it the best try assist they've ever seen – and it's hard to argue with them.

With just seven minutes gone in the first half, the Cowboys were mounting an attack down the left edge.

As the Tigers defensive line stepped up, Valentine Holmes threw a late pass to Taulagi who looked destined to open the scoring in the corner.

But thanks to a brilliant recovering tackle from Tigers star Jackson Hastings, Taulagi was forced out of play and into touch – or so it seemed.

What happened next couldn't have been predicted by anyone watching from either the front row at Suncorp Stadium or the comfort of their living room.

Despite being what seemed like several metres into touch, Taulagi miraculously managed to avoid touching the ground, meaning the ball was still live.

Still airborne, Taulagi then scooped the ball back into play and it landed perfectly in the bread basket of his teammate Drinkwater.

Upon review, Taulagi was literally millimetres from the turf.

The man literally defied gravity.

When the ball was grounded, there appeared to be a moment of silence as viewers tried to work out what exactly had just happened, but it wasn't long until fans inside Suncorp went into meltdown.

"We've waited to game eight to perhaps witness the best trick of Magic Round," Vossy said in the Fox League commentary box.

"It just gets better with every angle.

"That's outrageous! That's better than Benji's '05 flick pass."

When the NRL shared the clip on their social media channels, league lovers were quick to call the try assist the greatest of all-time.

Speaking on the SPORTbible Daily Podcast, hosts Shad Wicka and Katie Brown were equally as amazed as what unfolded before their eyes.

"I swear, that try assist has got to be the best in history," Brown said.

"Murray was sensational. Maybe a Maroons call-up? Dare I say it."

It really was a piece of individual brilliance and one that'll lie long in the memories of all NRL fans – even Tigers supporters were seen applauding it in the crowd.

How can you not?
