The motocross community is in mourning after one of its favourite riders sadly passed away.
Tributes from motorsport supporters have come flooding in after Alberto 'Wey' Zapata died mid-race following a horrific crash in Cordoba, Argentina.
It's understood Zapata lost control of his bike during a jump but was accidentally struck on the head by two other oncoming riders while he was on the ground.

He was just 23 years of age.
The talented Argentinian was a favourite among motocross fans.

Not only did his riding ability speak for itself, but what made Zapata's achievements on the track even more impressive is the fact he only had one arm.
Back in November 2020, he actually had his left arm amputated following a bad car accident.
But Zapata somehow made a miraculous recovery and was back racing on the track just a matter of months later.
It's part of the reason why he's widely regarded as a legendary figure in the motocross world.

But unfortunately, his life - and promising racing career - has been cut agonisingly short.
Footage of the horror incident surfaced on social media shortly after Zapata's passing but it wasn't long before the clips were taken down.
Fans, on the other hand, took to social media to pay tribute to the incredible young man.

"I am totally heartbroken by the sad news of the death of Wey Zapata," the governor of Zapata's hometown Sergio Unac said.
"My condolences to his family and friends at this sad moment in time.
"Rest in peace warrior. In San Juan we will remember you as a great sportsman and an enormous fighter."
Zapata was Argentine National Champion in 2006, 2008 and 2012 before becoming Peruvian Supercross Champion in 2018.
And even after his amputation, he was still getting podiums on his local circuit.
