Gonzalo Higuain Becomes Premier League's Sixth Highest Earner

The Juventus forward had been on loan to AC Milan but has now joined Maurizio Sarri's side on a temporary basis to boost their attack.

Chelsea's new number nine Gonzalo Higuain joins Premier League's money elite as he becomes the sixth highest earner after completing his season-long loan move to Stamford Bridge.

The goalscoring Argentine is set to take home a healthy £270,000 a week at his new club, which is reportedly double what he earned at Juventus.

He's so far spent this season on-loan at AC Milan in Italy's Serie A, where he's failed to ignite the form he enjoyed at Juventus and Napoli, the latter under Maurizio Sarri, in recent years.

Only five of the league's most wadded stars are ahead of the 31-year-old.

Unsurprisingly, Manchester United's Alexis Sanchez tops the list with a huge £505,000 a week pay packet.

Mesut Ozil takes second spot with £350,000 per-week, but has since fallen out-of-favour in Arsenal boss Unai Emery's plans. SPORTbible recently sat down with the German playmaker.

England star Raheem Sterling has earnt his way to third with £300,000 a week. World Cup winners N'Golo Kante and Paul Pogba are joint fourth with a most-definitely-modest weekly wage of £290,000.

You can make your own judgements, but going off this list, it's safe to say money doesn't always equal quality.

But Chelsea fans have every right to be excited by Higuain's move to West London. Under boss Maurizio Sarri at Napoli, the number nine was no stranger to the score sheet.

In the 2015/16 Serie A campaign, Higuain's name was etched in the record books after equalling Gino Rossetti's 36 goal tally in just one season. He moved to Juventus a year later for price tag totalling €90 million.

After two successful seasons in Turin, the Argentine was loaned out to AC Milan to help lighten the financial weight of Cristiano Ronaldo's move from Real Madrid.

Sarri started the season with Alvaro Morata up front but the Spaniard has been far from impressive and has now moved to Atletico Madrid.

Recently Eden Hazard has been playing upfront but that means his ability on the wing has been missing.
